Co-curricular activities are fundamental to the overall holistic development of the student. We encourage all students to become highly committed in both curricular and co-curricular domains.

The opportunities provided to our students cut across all of the broad areas of interest: academic challenge, gifted and talented programs, the creative and performing arts, sport, debating and public speaking, clubs and associations. In Term 2014 HVGS became the first school LEO club in the region and continues to be the largest of it's kind. .
Our Music program is sensational, lead ably by Mr Johnston Parkinson. He has a keenly committed team who offer fantastic opportunities to our students. Our Music program is first class and without a peer across all of the Hunter and Newcastle.
English and Communications
Mr Nick Jolliffe, Dean of Curriculum , will happily talk to interested parents about the very vibrant set of activities in this area, including public speaking, debating, tournament of the minds, just to name a few.
There are over 20 sports offered in our dynamic sporting program. Mr Ross Murdoch, Junior Sport or Mr Tony Burgess, Secondary are waiting for your enquiry so they can boast about our extensive programs.
Mrs Jennifer White would love to chat to parents and students about the dramatic arts, theatre at HVGS, our drama clubs and also our biennial tour to London and Europe.
Mrs Sue Richardson, the School's curator is keen to tell you about all of the exhibitions and opportunities for our students including our annual art and music showcase, Inspired, as well clubs in photography and after school classes for talented students.
Mrs Amanda King, as Head of the Geography and Commerce Faculty, provides a number of enterprising activities for students including, Australian Business Week, Mock Trial, Model United Nations Assembly, Mooting, and more.
