Hunter Valley Grammar School is situated on 12 hectares of lightly wooded land on the eastern side of Maitland. The School was founded on the premise that educational excellence can be provided in a rural setting.
Located in the Lower Hunter on the Hunter River, Maitland is a medium sized city with a population of approximately 55,000. It is at the heart of the Hunter Valley and is only 30 kilometres from Newcastle, 90 minutes from Sydney and is just a short distance from the vineyards, Port Stephens and the Barrington National Park.
Maitland was first settled by Europeans in approximately 1810 and is the focus of a diversity of economic activities including agriculture, tourism, mining, manufacturing, transport and construction industries. Its long history is reflected in the many historic buildings built in the mid 1800's using local sandstone and cedar.
Maitland is also recognised as the fastest growing regional area in New South Wales. This has resulted in a period of rapid growth at the School with enrolments nearing capacity.
