Students at HVGS are provided with the opportunity to be involved in a variety of sporting activities conducted both inside and outside school hours. All students participate in weekly sport and recreational pursuits whilst participation in representative sports and extracurricular clubs is on a voluntary basis.

Intra-school weekly sport is conducted within an integrated program. Weekly sport sessions are held as follows;

K,1 and 2 Gross Motor program on Fridays.

Year’s 3 – 6 House competitions and skill development on Fridays

Year’s 7 – 9 House competitions, sport and recreational pursuits on Wednesdays

Year’s 10 – 11 House competitions, sport and recreational pursuits on Thursdays

 

Where possible sport is conducted on the school grounds with a few exceptions such as rowing and tennis. The sports offered are traditional in nature and follow the school’s representative program where possible.

HVGS is member of Hunter Region Independent School (HRIS) and participates in all the major events conducted by this Association. HRIS is the first step on a student’s representative pathway to Combined Independent Schools (CIS) and NSW All schools selection.

Currently, HVGS has a number of focus sports, each having a Teacher In Charge. These sports are those which are most popular amongst the HVGS community. The sports and the Teacher In Charge are as follows:

HVGS sporting teams compete in the local community competitions in Basketball, Netball, Soccer, Cricket and Touch. These clubs are designed to provide regular competition in a safe, organised and nurturing environment for students of all ability levels. Enquiries regarding these clubs are to be directed to the Teacher In Charge of the respective sport. (see above).
