Head of Welfare and Wellbeing - Senior School

The Head of Welfare and Wellbeing (Senior School) is an integral part of the Senior School Leadership Team. The role oversees the welfare and wellbeing of Senior School students, supporting their holistic development, has oversight of the development of the mentor program delivered in the Senior School, and supports the operations of the Senior School through the coordination of key events in the school's calendar related to community and wellbeing. 

The Head of Welfare and Wellbeing (Senior School) ensures that planning is aligned with the strategic direction of the school and that the systems and structures to support student welfare, wellbeing and transition build coherence, enable authentic collaboration and foster clear communication.

Work Pattern: This position is to be on campus from 8:00 am until at least 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday, each school day in accordance with the published term dates. Staff meetings and other avenues for collaboration require attendance beyond 4:00pm. This position will have a release from face-to-face teaching of 28 periods of a 46-period cycle.

About You

  • Relevant teaching qualification.

  • Current NESA accreditation, or capacity to gain accreditation with NESA.

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional learning (including the specified hours of NESA Registered PD. 

  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage teachers, support families, and inspire students.

  • Responsibility for managing one’s own annual accreditation requirements including fee payment and maintenance of a current Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the International Baccalaureate programme, or displayed excellence in an aligned philosophy.

  • Philosophical alignment with respectful and restorative practices promoting student wellbeing and behavioural support.

  • Demonstrated excellence in conducting open and collaborative conversations with parents and staff, including in person, online, and over the phone.

  • Demonstrated workload prioritisation and time management skills with the capacity to coordinate staff and manage projects or initiatives.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, students and parents from diverse backgrounds.

  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written communication, and the capacity to lead colleagues in improvement in the same.

  • A high degree of professional judgement and confidentiality.

  • A strong dedication to customer service.

  • Effective organisation skills, with demonstrated initiative and ability to prioritise work and manage multiple tasks.

  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills, including the ability to listen and communicate effectively across all areas and levels of a school community.

  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and proven experience in generating solutions.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a dynamic team environment with proven ability to relate professionally and authentically to staff, students and parents, developing and maintaining positive working relationships.

  • Ability to:

    • Develop positive, empathetic, collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

    • Engage, motivate and inspire within and beyond their team.

    • Display empathy, enthusiasm, commitment and strong work ethic.
