What have you been up to since leaving HVGS?

My current role is media adviser to a Federal Member in the Australian Parliament, The Hon. Mark Coulton. Mr Coulton represents the Parkes electorate, which is nearly 400,000 square kilometres in size – just shy of half the state. I’m based in Dubbo but travelling throughout the electorate, as well as to Parliament House in Canberra, is a very special part of the job.

I’m required to be on top of everything in the media, all of the time (newspapers, radio, television and online). I am always looking for new and effective ways to work with the media and help Mr Coulton promote the great work he does. I’m also responsible for the Agriculture and Water portfolio, which I love.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I’m lucky to get a first-hand insight into how government policy is developed and spend time with our country’s leaders including members of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers and even the Prime Minister.

Every day is a new challenge and I’m always learning.

How did HVGS help you get there?

HVGS set a strong foundation for my love of learning and always striving for success and helped me to find out where my passions lie. I met wonderful people at HVGS, both students and staff, and made memories to cherish forever.

HVGS taught me that hard work always pays off!

Do you have any memories you’d like to share from your school days?

I have some very special memories from HVGS, particularly the wonderfully supportive teachers that empowered me to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone.

While I was at HVGS, I did solo musical performances at school assemblies on numerous occasions (vocal and piano). Before too long I grew in confidence, which has extended much further into a professional capacity. I have my time at HVGS to thank for that.
